Stray Thoughts
Things that happened to pop into my head and come out in seventeen syllables.
Gracefully, I pose,
Suddenly, I chase shadows!
Then, a well-earned nap.
-- Haiku inspired by my cat, Albie, May 2002
Rain falls from the sky
Cleaning the grime from the world,
Everything looks new.
-- Haiku inspired by a gentle rain in May 2002
Thinking about you,
Your face, your voice, your hand's touch,
My heart swells with joy.
-- Thinking of someone special, July 2002
Gently falling rain
Melts away the ice and snow:
Spring is drawing near
-- Hope on a dreary day
Rain, rain, go away,
We've had enough rain for one year!
How about some sun?
-- Commentary on the weather of Summer 2003
Just five syllables,
Accompanying seven,
Followed by five more.
-- A self-describing haiku. Hey, a guy's gotta have
his fun...
I test Vaporware
Futility is defined:
"Unreleased Software"
-- Reflections of my recent job experience
Juicy, delicious,
Little blue orbs of sweetness:
I love blueberries!
-- Thinking of one of my favorite fruits, Summer
2004
Sometimes my thoughts don't come in 17 syllable bites.
I miss your whining,
Crying from the other room
Just to hear me call...
I miss your running,
Gallumphing around like a
Herd of buffalo...
I miss your cat's grace,
Posed like an ancient statue
Wise beyond your years...
I miss your purring,
Nestled close next to my leg
Rest in peace, my friend.
-- Elegy for Albie, July 1994 - November 2004
Again, sometimes my thoughts don't come in 17 syllable bites.
You've lived a good life
Full of scritches and catnip
Naps, toys and more naps.
When Albie left us
You turned into a lap cat
Helping us with grief.
But then, you fell ill,
Your body filled with disease,
Weakened and hurting.
Now your pain is gone,
Your suffering at an end.
Goodbye, Pretty Girl.
